Porntip nasceu em 1968 na cidade tailandesa de Chachoengsao filha de músicos. Aos 2 anos de idade, ela e sua familia foram para California, USA. Aos 15 anos ela se inscreveu no Miss Teen California, ficando em 2º lugar. Em 1984 e 1985 tentou vencer um concurso de beleza na Tailândia, não conseguindo.
Apesar de ter ido muito pequena para a America, ela é fluente em Thai e em 1988 tentou o Miss Tailândia, Com a vitória no concurso nacional ela ganhou o direito de ir a Taiwan concorrer ao Miss Universo. Entrando em 4º lugar nas preliminares, Porntip após uma ótima entrevista acabou se tornando uma favorita em potencial. Num ano com várias semifinalistas asiáticas, ela ficou num top 5 ao lado de Miss Coréia do Sul, Japão e Hong Kong. Uma curiosidade é que ela foi "roommate" de Miss Coréia naquele ano. Porntip também venceu melhor traje típico.
Após um ano de reinado, ela voltou a California onde se formou em Psicologia na Pepperdine University, casou com o bilionário americano Herbert Simon e vive até hoje em Santa Barbara. Ela foi apresentadora do concurso de Trajes Típicos do MU 1992, jurada do MU 2005 e das preliminares de 2006.
Porntip foi embaixadora da boa vontade para o Fundo populacional da ONU, trabalhou com diversos fundos infantis e auxiliou as vítimas do Tsunami na Tailândia!
